About
Reflective leadership. Human-centered design. Aligned systems.
I’m Symon Hayes, and I create experiences that support leaders and teams to reconnect with clarity, purpose, and possibility—while building learning environments that reflect those values in practice.
With more than 30 years in education, I’ve seen how the pace and complexity of the work can pull even the most thoughtful leaders into constant reaction. My work creates space to slow down, reflect, and lead with greater intention—so what you believe aligns with what you build.
At the center of it all is a simple belief: every learner deserves to feel seen, supported, and able to thrive.
My Path
I began my career as an artist, and that creative lens continues to shape how I think about learning, leadership, and change. I’ve always been drawn to the process of making—exploring ideas, shifting perspectives, and working collaboratively to create something meaningful.
That path led me into education, where I worked across both special and general education settings before moving into instructional coaching and leadership roles. Over time, I’ve partnered with educators and leaders across schools, districts, and organizations—supporting learning environments that are more inclusive, engaging, and responsive to the students they serve.
Throughout that journey, one thing has remained consistent: meaningful change happens when people have the space to think, reflect, and build together.
My Work
How This Work Comes Together
This work moves from reflective leadership to learner-centered design to aligned systems—supporting schools in building environments where both adults and students can thrive.
Reflective Leadership (Tier 1)
Supporting leaders to slow down reactive patterns, build emotional awareness, and lead with greater clarity and presence. This is where alignment begins.
Human-Centered Learning Design (Tier 2)
Working with teams to translate values into practice—designing learning and assessment experiences that are inclusive, coherent, and grounded in how people actually learn.
Aligned Systems (Tier 3)
Partnering with schools and organizations to align leadership, instruction, and systems—so the structures in place support reflection, coherence, and sustainable change.
This work is not linear.
It begins within and extends outward.
How I Work
Building trust is central to how I work. I try to show up with honesty, listen carefully to understand the context and strengths people already bring, and remain open to not having all the answers.
I believe the best work happens in collaboration—when people feel calm, respected, and able to think together. My role is not to prescribe solutions, but to create the conditions where clarity emerges, ideas develop, and meaningful change becomes possible.

A Bit More About Me
Outside of education, I’m still very much an artist. I draw inspiration from graphic design, illustration, and time outdoors—especially mountain biking, road cycling, and running.
Originally from England, I moved to the U.S. in 2000 to teach in Colorado, and I now live in the Bay Area, California. I remain deeply committed to helping schools create the conditions where both adults and students can do meaningful work and feel like they belong.
