Leadership from within. Learning by Design.
Create the conditions for meaningful learning..
DesignEd helps leaders, teams, and schools intentionally shape the conditions, experiences, and environments in which people learn, work, and grow.
Through reflective leadership, human-centered learning design, and systems partnerships, we create space to slow down, notice what is happening, and design what comes next with greater intention.
In complex environments, urgency can narrow our attention. (new)
Leaders are often asked to know, decide, respond, and move forward—sometimes before they have had space to notice what is actually happening.
Slowing down creates room to notice.
What is happening within us.
What is happening for the people we serve.
What patterns are shaping our classrooms, teams, and systems.
When we notice more clearly, we create the possibility of responding differently.
From reaction →(to) reflection →(to) intention.
This is where intentional change begins.
People experience learning through more than curriculum and instruction. They experience it through relationships, expectations, structures, culture, and the ways we respond to what is happening around us.
Design is more than what we create. It is how we intentionally shape the conditions, experiences, environments, and systems in which people learn and grow.
That is why DesignEd works across three connected dimensions.
Learning environments reflect the conditions we create for the people within them. (2. NEW NOT THIS Format - REVISE )

What supports the work
Working with schools and organizations to strengthen coherence across leadership, learning, assessment, and the structures that sustain meaningful change.
Each pathway builds on the one before it, but you can begin where your work needs you most.
Together, these pathways support leaders, teams, and organizations in creating learning environments that are more reflective, connected, and human-centered.
Different Entry Points. Shared Purpose (5. NEW)
You may be looking for space to reflect as a leader.
You may be ready to rethink learning, assessment, or classroom practice with others.
You may be working across a school or system where meaningful work has begun—but feels fragmented, disconnected, or difficult to sustain.
There is no single starting point.
The Studio/Reflective Leadership
Create space to slow down, reconnect with what matters, and cultivate greater awareness, clarity, and intention in how you lead.
Human-Centered Learning Design
Support educators and leaders in designing learning and assessment experiences that are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to learner variability.
Align Systems
Strengthen coherence across leadership, learning, assessment, and the structures that support meaningful change over time.
Each pathway builds on the one before it, but you can begin where your work needs you most.
Together, these pathways support leaders, teams, and organizations in creating learning environments that are more reflective, connected, and human-centered.
Insight matters when it changes what we do. NEW
DesignEd creates space to slow down, reflect, make meaning, and consider what the work is asking of us.
Through reflection, creative practice, dialogue, and intentional design, we move from what we notice to what we might do differently. HORIZONTAL RYTHYM
NOTICE/Notice
Pay attention to what is happening.
REFLECT/Reflect
Explore what you are seeing, thinking, and experiencing.
DESIGN/Design
Make intentional choices about what comes next.
APPLY/Apply
Put those choices into practice within your real context.
REFINE/Refine
Notice what is changing, learn from it, and adjust over time.
The goal is not another framework to carry. It is a more thoughtful way of approaching the work already in front of you.
This work happens in partnership.
DesignEd partners with schools and districts to design and facilitate strategic professional learning and coaching that honor educators' current knowledge while fostering a deeper understanding of how to design accessible, engaging, and relevant learning environments for all students. DesignEd works alongside people who are committed to creating better conditions for learning, growth, and meaningful change.

The work begins with your context, your people, and the priorities that matter most to you.
The strongest partnerships begin with listening, grow through trust, and create lasting change together.
Design shapes what becomes possible. NEW
Over more than 30 years in education, my work has moved from the classroom to coaching, professional learning, learning design, and whole-school change.
Across all of those experiences, I keep returning to a few questions:
What are people experiencing?
What conditions are making learning possible—or getting in the way?
What might we intentionally design differently?
My work as an educator and artist has taught me to approach those questions with curiosity, reflection, and creativity.
DesignEd brings those ways of seeing together.
The goal is not to add more. It is to help people create conditions, experiences, and environments that make meaningful learning, thoughtful leadership, and lasting change more possible.
Begin Where You Are
You don't need to have the whole path figured out.
Start with what you're noticing, what matters most, or where something feels ready to change.
DesignEd creates space to slow down, make meaning, and intentionally design what comes next—whether the work begins with you, with the educators you support, or across your school or system.
Small, intentional shifts in how we lead can create lasting change in how others learn.
The Reality of Leadership Today ( keep/move down)
Leadership has always been complex.
Today, that complexity feels constant.
Leaders are navigating competing priorities, increasing demands, staff well-being, instructional improvement, and the daily challenge of making thoughtful decisions in environments that rarely slow down.
In the midst of that pace, there is often little space to pause, reflect, and intentionally consider how we are leading—not just what we are leading.
Yet the way we show up shapes every conversation, every decision, every relationship, and ultimately, every learning experience we create.
Lasting change doesn't begin with another initiative.
It begins with how we show up.
Learning environments reflect the conditions we create for the people within them.

How leaders show up shapes how learning is experienced
When leaders create space to pause, reflect, and respond with intention, they create stronger conditions for trust, belonging, collaboration, and meaningful learning.
I help thoughtful leaders cultivate reflective practices that strengthen how they lead—so they can respond with greater clarity, presence, and intention, and create more human-centered learning environments.
What Makes This Work Different?
Most professional learning focuses on changing instructional practice.
DesignEd begins one step earlier.
By helping leaders cultivate greater awareness, reflection, and intention, we strengthen the conditions that allow meaningful learning, collaboration, and lasting change to emerge.
At the heart of this work is a simple belief: the creative process mirrors the leadership process.
Our work brings together:
Reflective Leadership
Cultivating the awareness, presence, and intention that shape how leaders show up.
Creative Practice
Using accessible creative experiences as a pathway for reflection, regulation, and insight.
Human-Centered Learning Design
Designing learning experiences that honor learner variability, belonging, and meaningful engagement.
Adult Learning & Collaboration
Creating thoughtful professional learning where educators learn with—and from—one another.
Research-Informed Frameworks
Grounding the work in educational research, including Universal Design for Learning, Project-Based Learning, and evidence-based learning design.
These are not separate initiatives or disconnected strategies. Together, they create a coherent approach that aligns leadership, learning, and the systems that support both.
